GOOD AS GOLD
Good As Gold is a concept and product that believes we can make and do something good not just in the short term but in the long term, fundamentally giving us and others the best chance to survive in our chosen environment and a platform for development.
Good As Gold wanted to simply make something that could help; something that could potentially improve life and something that could generally have a positive impact. As my main research topic I have focused on the material gold and its systemic affects, having been largely inspired by the works and ideas of Felix Guattari, Tony Fry and Elaine Scarry.
Many of us will gladly wear gold but not enough wear gold knowing its true impact. Good As Gold is a simple one-for-one concept that aims to give a re-design of a mercury condensing kit to an artisan miner in need. The mercury condensing kit consists of a compact, user friendly, durable, artisan specifically designed retort, which reduces the risk of mercury exposure to both the user and to the local ecosystems. So if they want they can mine safely.
The second product of the one-for-one concept is a beautifully designed recycled 9ct gold ring, which allows the end user of gold to buy into something that does not simply give aid, but provides a platform to tackle a cause and not a symptom. Thus, allowing the artisan miners to help themselves and move away from the more destructive side of mining and towards something more life supporting.
